I am really excited to have a small bathroom to play around with. It’s going to be the only bathroom on the main floor so it will get regular use, but it’s also a fairly tight space. It has to be super functional, but I also really wanted it to be fun. I kept saying “I want a moody bathroom,” and was getting blank stares in return. Something like this
I wanted to have brass hardware to continue the brass/gold look from the kitchen, and it was tough to find faucets in the right finish that were remotely affordable. There’s lots of shiny 80’s style brass that is cheap, but the good stuff is harder to find.
I also love the drama of a wall mounted faucet…but its really hard to find a sink that works with it. Stupidly, sinks come predrilled with holes for the faucets and it’s ridiculously hard to find a sink without them. The obvious solution would be to get a vessel sink but I really really don’t like the look of them. And when have I ever gone for the easy obvious solution when I can obsess about something instead? So I’ve been scouring the depths of the interwebs to see what I can find. At this point, I’m resigning myself to buying a slab of Carrera and having it cut to size and then building a vanity. So much for quick and easy…
The good news is I found wallpaper that is perfect for the space. I loved the Ellie Cashman wallpaper but was getting estimates in the $4,000-5,000 range which is insane. I then found the perfect wallpaper…but it was sold out. I luckily thought to do a reverse image search to find that it’s also sold by Burke decor. AND it was even cheaper on their site than on wayfair.
Isn’t it gorgeous?!? It’s exactly what I was looking for. I was worried about getting the hubby on board, but surprisingly he loved it too. Now that I have the wallpaper figured out the plan is something like this for the bathroom.
I’m totally into the dark wallpaper with the gold hardware, and the rustic vanity. Does anyone know where I can get a toilet flusher knob in brushed gold? lol, kidding…mostly 🙂
edit: OMG it’s actually a thing. You can buy a gold button to flush your toilet
Lol, I know it sounds like I have a weirdo stalker with a title like this, but its a real thing. Having your walls torn down, flooring removed, and having no heat or running water is apparently so addicting you want to keep doing it. Not. But apparently we do, because we decided to expand the scope of our project even more…as contractors call it “scope creep.” Its a real thing.
We had always planned to someday update the master bathroom. At the moment its perfectly functional, but not particularly updated. When the house was built it had three bedrooms, then in the 90’s the previous owners added on a master bedroom and bathroom. But the layout of the home meant it got added onto an existing bedroom. So instead of it being a 4 bedroom, it was still a 3 bedroom but now you walked through one bedroom to get to the master. It was sort of like a sitting room, but the master itself is really big so it didn’t need this extra weird space. What they didn’t add though, was a walk-in closet, so the bedroom had long shallow closets against one wall.
The bathroom they added was also BIG, its more than 10×10. But here again the space was not used in a way that seemed functional. They only had a single vanity, and had a giant closet and just lots of empty hard to use space. It was also built in the 90’s and VERY early 90’s.
Sooo…since we had the walls/floor/ceiling open and had easy access to the plumbing we decided to go for it. We are now converting the “sitting room” into a walk-in closet, so it will have more of an ensuite feel to it. The bathroom will get a MAJOR upgrade, with a double vanity, soaking tub, and a water closet. Basically WINNING.
I’m really loving gray and white kitchens with gold/brass hardware.
I love how this kitchen has both white and black cabinets, white marble and butcherblock counters, brass hardware, stainless steel appliances, AND a patterned tile wall without looking like a crazy person’s kitchen.
I love the look of this one too, though I would add a little bit of rustic wood to warm it up.
The one thing we are also going to be incorporating that I can’t seem to find in any kitchens online are black stainless steel appliances. We bought this fridge from LG. I found this image online of Samsung’s black stainless finish with gray cabinets. I think it will work well with gray and white cabinets…thoughts?
Our move out of LA is QUICKLY approaching and I’m feeling every emotion out there. One of the most exciting parts of the whole process is the renovation we are doing on our new house.
We are basically working within the original footprint of the home but completely updating the interior. The house had lots of little rooms, with a formal and informal dining room as well as a formal living room and a family room. That’s just not how we live. The kitchen hadn’t been updated since probably the 80’s, and it was in desperate need of a facelift. Below is the original floor plan
We are opening up the whole space, and creating a big kitchen to make all my kitchen dreams come true 🙂 We are also adding an office on the main floor and moving a bathroom to make the space more functional. This is our architect’s vision, I think its amazing!!
We started demo last week and its pretty crazy to see our house basically destroyed at the moment.
